Spanning the Bridge of Light

Spanning the Bridge of Light Listen to streaming audio

It is dusk

A large gulf separates two crag-like structures protruding from the mist

The deep reddish glow of sunset colors the sky

A bridge once spanned this chasm

Clouds obscure the sun but not its rays

The shadows grow deeper

Its origin, and those who passed through its gateways

Are as unknown to me

As the tale of its subsequent passage into the ages

I hear the water far below, rushing ever faster, ever more powerful

A new century dawns

Trusses, cables and beams

Once again a bridge will span this chasm

What a marvel it will be.
